Terra Flora, garden design in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Maggie’s horticultural education began in Southern California during the 70’s, while partnered with Steve Spangler of Exotica Seed and Nursery, who introduced her to the practices of Bio-Dynamic agriculture. For several years she traveled to the islands of Hawaii observing and learning while collecting seeds and plants. Traveling through the islands, time and again her attention was drawn to the layered plant groupings - in situ alliances and counterpoints. These experiences, along with her knowledge of California natives and sub-tropicals, expanded her plant palette and laid the foundation for her sense of design. So began her love affair with bananas, coco de mers, palms, plumerias, gingers and lychees. She began to garden in Santa Fe, NM in the early 80’s, at the same time creating a floral design business. By the mid 90’s she began to garden professionally and initiated the production of Bio-Dynamic compost. Terra Flora Garden Design is a design/build landscape firm specializing in gardens celebrating the spirit of the west – landscapes evoking the magical, intrinsic beauties of Nature and reflecting the rhythms of seasonal changes. The gardens of Terra Flora aim to inspire a desire to deepen our rapport and empathic bond with our earth Gaia. This we can do through renewing Her resources while protecting and loving the animating luminous wisdom of Her ineffable generosity.
